After a somewhat surprising home loss on Sunday to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the previously undefeated Kansas City Chiefs would like to get back to their winning ways when they take on the Oakland Raiders on Thursday night.
The Chiefs saw their 5-game winning streak snapped and will now take their show on the road to face a struggling Raider team. After a couple of opening wins, Oakland has dropped four straight games, the last two being home contests against the Ravens and Chargers. The loss to the Chargers on Sunday was on a last play field goal which resulted in the one-point loss.
Kansas City will see their schedule get tougher with three of the next four on the road against the likes of the Raiders, Broncos, Cowboys and Giants. Rookie running back Kareem Hunt was rolling until he ran into a Steeler defense which limited him to just 21 yards on only nine carries. And quarterback Alex Smith was held to 246 yards and a touchdown.
It was an acrobatic catch by Pittsburgh wideout Antonio Brown that sealed the game for the Steelers. Brown grabbed a pass between two defenders and took it to the house to put the Steelers up 19-10 with 3:24 left in the game. The Chiefs added a field goal to account for the final score of 19-13.
For the Raiders, quarterback Derek Carr returned against the Chargers but the team still hasn’t been able to get their passing game going. Carr threw for just 171 yards against the Chargers and the leading rusher was Marshawn Lynch with just 43 yards. Things may not get much better against a tough Kansas City defense that wants to keep the Oakland offense down, at least for one more week.
Oddsmakers have installed the Chiefs as a 3-point favorite to win their 6th game of the season come Thursday night. They also expect some points to be scored as point totals are at 46.5 as of this writing.
I expect a competitive game as both teams are coming off of a loss and this is also an important divisional game. Both head coaches, Andy Reid for the Chiefs and Jack Del Rio for the Raiders, are experienced coaches and will have a game plan and their teams ready to play. This game feels like a bigger one for the Raiders, so don’t be surprised if they pull the upset.
Prediction: Raiders get things rolling and win a tigh
